The selected printmakers by FIG, Bilbao International Graphic Fair showed their works in september 2017, in the exhibition “Open Porfolio”, in the hall from the Edificio del Ensanche, located in the center of the city, near to the Guggenheim Museum. In this splendid place with plenty of natural light, every artist presented his most representative graphic works. Was a great opportunity to present the new stone lithographies and photopolymers from the series Time Lines. The stone lithographies were done on the surface of the stone previous covered with a mixture of graphic asphalt, that provided the black background to make the drawings of fine white lines, done with a sharp engraving tool with a diamond point.
The slow process of drawing in the stone take some days, and the manual process of printing requires an absolute concentration, due to the precise amount of ink that is necessary to obtain a deep black without blocking the white fine lines. The limited edition of 10 exemplars was printed on cotton Arches Velin. The photopolymers make the complementary counterpart to the black stone lithographies, printed by hand with a baren on delicate Kouzo japanese papers. The photopolymer plates were obtained from drawings on black films, done with the same engraving tool with a diamond point. This drawings were used as negatives in a photographic process to prepare the plates.
